    Suffrage Colors and Symbolism

Purple, gold and white were the colors of the National Women’s Party. Purple symbolized the unswerving steadfastness to the cause. White represented the quality of purpose while gold signified light and life. Other leaders and organizations, interpreted colors in their own way, but colorful ribbons, sashes and banners were striking and distinctive in marches and parades. Honor this tradition by creating your own banner with some ideas from Spoonflower.

Yellow roses symbolized the suffrage movement. Ladies decorated their hats with yellow roses, or wore a spray of yellow roses. Gents supporting the movement often wore yellow rose boutonnieres. Anti-suffrage legislators wore red rose boutonnieres.
