The earliest evidence of the log cabin pattern is found on the linen wrappings on Egyptian cat mummies! In the 19th century, European archeologists sent these mummies from Egypt back to Europe. Egyptology was a popular pastime in the Victorian era. Perhaps the Log Cabin pattern was a "copycat fad" lasting to present day.
